The Huawei ICT Competition is a major international event in the field of information and communications technology (ICT), attracting over 220,000 students and teachers from more than 2,000 institutions across over 100 countries and regions this year. More than 160,000 participants joined the China competition alone.
The project of the team, Advocate Team, was based on ModelEngine, focusing on the development of a smart pathology knowledge Q&A agent. The team applied technologies including large-model fine-tuning, multimodal pathology analysis, and retrieval-augmented generation to address challenges such as inaccurate terminology, compliance risks, and high inference latency in general-purpose large language models. Their solution was highly recognised by Huawei experts and industry judges for both its technical innovation and practical application potential.

The team was led by Liu Chenxi, a third-year Data Science student from BNBU’s Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), who was responsible for project coordination and system development. Zhang Hanyuan, a third-year Business Analytics student from the Faculty of Business and Management, handled data processing and knowledge base construction. The project was supervised by Dr Chen Donglong of FST.

From the preliminary round to the national finals, the team overcame challenges in system development and optimisation, ultimately standing out among strong competitors through solid technical expertise and an outstanding presentation. They will continue refining the project ahead of the global finals.
