2026 marks the China–Brazil Year of Culture. On 21 April 2026, a delegation comprising members of the Sino-Brazilian Friendship Association and the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) visited Beijing Normal–Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) to discuss future collaboration in education and cultural exchange.
During the visit, BNBU signed a strategic framework agreement with the Friendship Association, paving the way for future extensive collaboration covering educational exchange, talent development, and cultural and artistic engagement.
Committed to promoting cultural exchange between Brazil and China, the Friendship Association works to advance cooperation in the fields of arts, culture, and education, while deepening mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.

Under the Agreement, the two sides will carry out a range of initiatives, covering areas including student exchange, joint training programmes, faculty visits, curriculum development, and academic seminars. Joint efforts will also be made to develop interdisciplinary talent programmes tailored to the needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Portuguese-speaking countries and to promote exchanges in culture, arts, and sports between China and Brazil as well as between China and other Portuguese-speaking countries. The two sides will also explore the possibility of establishing platforms for cooperation in education and innovation.

The meeting is attended by BNBU Associate Vice President (Global Engagement) Prof Huang Yu, Dean of BNBU’s School of General Education Prof Guo Haipeng, and Director of BNBU’s International Development Office Dr Darren Weng, along with other BNBU representatives. The two sides held in-depth discussions on future collaboration covering curriculum development, student exchange, and talent development
As the first university in the Chinese mainland committed to innovative liberal arts education, BNBU has always adhered to its mission of nurturing talent with a global outlook and a strong sense of social responsibility. The cooperation marks an important step in BNBU’s continued international development. It also reflects the University’s commitment to supporting the Belt and Road Initiative, the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
